The Brussels' Bouwmeester Maître Architecte mission is to enhance the spatial quality of urban projects from an independent perspective. During Belgium's EU presidency, they commissioned us to collaborate with the other Belgian Bouwmeesters on a project that promotes a deeper understanding of contemporary architectural and urbanistic developments across the country.

maps & website

The paper and digital tour guides showcase recent projects, inviting you to explore how our cities are evolving. We proposed creating unique maps for each tour, complemented by detailed explanations of the featured projects. This approach allows for focused attention, maximizes the map’s size, and enables targeted distribution, reducing waste.

To ensure the leaflet remains convenient to carry, we designed it in a pocket-friendly size with a mesmerizing turk fold, making it easy to open and store while on the move. Projects are appended to the back in an accordion booklet format, allowing the number of pages to vary according to the tour's requirements.

A contrasted dual-tone color scheme provides visual unity to the materials, which varied significantly in quality. This design choice also allowed us to increase the size of interior images without compromising text legibility. The cost savings from using dual tones balanced the expense of the map folding, ensuring a high-quality, inventive and cost-effective solution.

To optimize the process, given the tight schedule, we implemented an HTML-to-print workflow. This allowed the client team to upload images and typeset text directly, streamlining the production timeline. Tour paths were directly drawn online, ensuring precision and consistency. These digital data were then prepared for high-quality printing, maintaining the integrity of the design and content. The online version of the guide was made available simultaneously with the print edition, ensuring a cohesive and efficient distribution strategy.
