‘Belguim is Design’ is a label of the institutions supporting design and exports for the three Belgian regions.
Following the Milan Design Week 2010 edition, ‘[Les Belges]’ we were asked to update our production for this edition.
It had to contain a usb stick, designers cards and a map of the Belgian exhibitions spread around Milan …and everything needed to be able to be given away separately.
After ruling out all unnecessary box/file/bags… which were the first things to come to mind for this kind of object, the Belgian motto ‘L'union fait la force’ gave us the answer: a simple, unifying ring going through the usb stick, – especially design for the purpose (not edible unfotunatlely) – the maps attached with an eyelet and all the designers' cards.
Searching for the right fonts (a traditional Italian serif and the specific Helvetica used by the FCI Milano :^) or the proper way to use the Belgian colours, we aimed for something strong but not overshadowing the content, meaningful but subtle, budget but very handy.
