Urban Maestro is a European funded agency built by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the Brussels Bouwmeester Maître Architecte (BMA) and University College London (UCL). It works towards new governance strategies for urban design.
We found these passionate people and progressive topics very inspiring and were enthused to come up with a visual identity and website featuring material gathered from all across Europe. The logo has a strong and legible font but is used with smooth lowercase characters. The two word name is layered by a dotted pattern suggesting different scales. The dots are a reference to mapping data and could be interpreted as the size of a city or simply scaled down to individuals around letter-shaped buildings. The coloured rectangle blocks are inspired by clear roadwork signs which overlap each other. A style of diagrams and pictograms were created to visualize the main concepts requiring explanation.
Last but not least, a complete website was built, with, at its core, an interactive map displaying all the projects selected by the agency as examples of good practice.
