Kidnap Your Designer is proud of its extended team captured by the photographer Ugo Woatzi to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the studio. Camille, Damien, Esther, Enz@ and Antonin.
Ugo Woatzi is a Brussels' based photographer and defines himself as a queer visual artist. Selected and finalist in programs such as: .TIFF by FOMU (Antwerp), Futures Photography (Amsterdam) CAP prize (Basel), Pride Photo Award (Amsterdam), and many others. Ugo is a chameleon and a real talent.
‘Ugo invites us to consider and celebrate a range of masculinities, performative bodies, psyches, and experiences, as he explores the idea of “visibility” as one fraught with both fear and excitement. This duality is embodied powerfully in Ugo’s work, which is both a performance and a lived reality, the speaking of truths and the creating of fictions. That is the nature of photography: to create new worlds from fragments of previous ones. We had a lot of fun getting into Ugo's lush visual world. This series of portraits were taken at night among the dense vegetation of our studio's courtyard.
- Camille (she/her or they/them) studio partner, is a typo-graphic designer, artist and researcher, likes to be involved in a thousand projects: from teaching to collective practices. They have graduated from a master's degree in Gender Studies. Active member of the Bye Bye Binary collective, Camille is the author of La typographie post-binaire (B42). When they still have time on their hands, they like to play drums and drive vintage cars !
- Damien (any pronoun), studio partner, spends time in a teaching practice at the erg, guiding students during their Master in Photography. He has a keen eye for contemporary art and science which inspires his graphic design. In his spare time he likes to capture surprising elements of reality through photography or to give a second life to stylish objects. He also happens to be a singer!
- Enz@ (they/them or she/her), studio partner, is a graphic designer, typographer, researcher and active member of the Bye Bye Binary collective. Her interests include gender studies, trans*feminism, queer writing and aesthetics, queer pedagogy and transmission of counter-narratives and post-binary fabulations.
- Antonin (he/him) is in charge of the motion design of the projects and is always there to lend a hand when things get hectic. Outside the studio, he has a crazy personal illustration practice all of his own. We recommend you to have a look at his Insta!
- Esther (she/her), our beloved colleague, left the studio in 2022 for a bit of adventure.
